More Than a Restaurant: Braai, Bar and Beer Garden in Cape Town

Nothing at Kronendal was chosen from a catalogue. This is a braai restaurant, bar and beer garden in Hout Bay, Cape Town, set in a Cape Dutch manor on an estate granted in 1713, and everything inside it was brought in and kept: antiques hunted down at auctions across South Africa, a bar designed and built in Dublin and shipped out in crates, and beer carried in from Kilkenny, Munich, Yorkshire and Cornwall. Collected, not decorated. Our South African cuisine is grilled over open fire in our open-air kitchen, keeping the focus on flavour, simplicity, and shared experiences.

Alongside the food are 30 imported beer selections across eight breweries and six countries, poured from brewers who have been at it since 1589, and a dedicated beer menu that sets us apart from your typical pubs and restaurants. Draught, Weisse, lagers and ales are all part of the experience, alongside 35 whiskeys, 32 of them Irish.

The bar itself is an Irish pub built in Ireland, shipped to Cape Town in crates and installed inside the manor.

It is not just about eating or drinking. It is about good food, proper beer, and a place that feels easy to settle into and hard to leave.

Food Built Around the Fire

Our food experience is built around fire, flavour, and time spent together. South African cuisine is prepared in our open-air kitchen, where braai culture sits at the centre of how we cook and serve. Every cut comes from our own butchery. The menu is designed for relaxed dining, generous portions, and food that works just as well for sharing as it does for settling in.
