Kronendal is a Cape Dutch manor on a National Monument site in Hout Bay. The back range of the house was built in 1713 and the front section was added around 1800, completing the H-plan. These photographs show the rooms as they are now, furnished piece by piece with antiques bought at auctions across South Africa. Nothing here was chosen from a catalogue.

The rest of the gallery covers the working parts of the place: the open fire and the food that comes off it, the bar, the terrace and the beer garden as they fill on a Friday evening.

See what comes off the fire on our braai menu, or book a table.
