Imported Beer in Cape Town: 30 Selections on One List
Kronendal 1713 pours serious imported beer in Cape Town: 30 selections across eight breweries and six countries, in a Cape Dutch National Monument on an estate granted in 1713. Irish stout and red ale from Kilkenny, Bavarian lager and weissbier from Munich, and English ales from Yorkshire, Cornwall and Dorset. Ten beers on tap - four Sullivan's, two Hofbräu, three English ales and Guinness, all of them imported. Plus Windhoek from Namibia and Clausthaler alcohol-free lager from Germany.
Five of the ten taps are Irish, poured in the Irish pub: a bar designed and built in Ireland and shipped to Cape Town in crates.
Theakston is 50% off, at the bar and in the bottle store. All five: Old Peculier, Peculier IPA, XB, Theakston Pale and Best Bitter. Brewed in North Yorkshire since 1827, and not stocked by any bottle store in South Africa. While stocks last. See the special
Beer on tap
Oktoberfest beer
The beer they pour at Munich's Oktoberfest is the beer we pour here. Hofbrau Munchen, the original, and the only Oktoberfest beer served on tap in Cape Town.
Pour the Helles and you understand why they have been doing this since 1589. Bright gold, a firm white head that stays, soft bready malt, and a clean bitter finish that has you reaching for the next mouthful before you have finished this one. The Weisse comes over cloudy and cool, banana and clove. And the Oktoberfestbier at 6.3% is the festbier itself, brewed strong for the tents in Munich and shipped out here for ours.
Oktoberfest details for this season coming soon.
